Gypsum and grid ceilings are built in layers. Services above the ceiling are coordinated before boarding so nothing has to be opened up later.

Mark levels and lines
Ceiling height and any drops, coves or bulkheads are marked on the walls from a datum.

Fix the framing
Suspended channel or grid fixed to the slab, with drops framed for bulkheads and pelmets.

Coordinate services
AC ducting, lighting positions, sprinkler and cable routes are set before the ceiling is closed.

Board or lay in
Gypsum board screwed and jointed, or acoustic and metal tiles laid into the grid.

Finish
Joints taped and filled, sanded, primed and painted. Grid ceilings are cleaned and trimmed.
